However, trial environments have limitations — particularly around connectivity to your live SAP systems. I am still running SAP ECC. Can I use SAP BTP?
Yes. BTP works alongside SAP ECC and is often used to build the business case for S/4HANA migration over time.
BTP is not exclusive to S/4HANA. The SAP Integration Suite connects to ECC systems via RFC, IDoc and SOAP adapters. SAP Build Process Automation can automate ECC-based processes. Many organisations begin their BTP journey on ECC — using integration and automation projects to build internal capability and justify the broader move to S/4HANA on RISE with SAP. What is the Clean Core strategy?
Clean core strategy means building all SAP customisations on BTP — not inside the core — so that upgrades remain clean and manageable.
Clean Core involves moving all custom features, extensions and modifications out of the SAP standard system and onto BTP. Extensions sit side-by-side with S/4HANA, communicate via stable APIs, and are independent of core upgrades. The result: SAP quarterly releases can be applied without regression testing custom code, significantly reducing upgrade cost and risk.

Will I continue to access SAP BTP after my SAP RISE contract ends?
If you’re currently accessing SAP BTP as part of your RISE with SAP contract, it’s important to note that BTP entitlements are typically tied to the duration and terms of that agreement. Once the RISE contract ends, those included entitlements may no longer be available in the same form.
To continue leveraging SAP BTP, you would usually need to renew your RISE contract or transition to a standalone BTP licensing model based on your business needs.
