A major European energy company was facing mounting challenges in managing open Purchase Orders (POs), particularly those with remaining balances or incomplete closures, issues that were hindering financial accuracy and operational efficiency. The AG team conducted a focused review of their SAP Procure-to-Pay (P2P) lifecycle and identified high-friction PO closure points that were ripe for automation.
By utilising AG’s deep SAP process knowledge and RPA capability, the organisation implemented a scalable bot-led framework that streamlined PO closure across categories. This automation now proactively identifies closure candidates based on configurable rules, verifies key business logic, and initiates closure workflows, dramatically cutting down manual intervention. The result? Over 1,200+ legacy POs were successfully closed, with ongoing automation in place to maintain real hygiene and 16 unique steps automated as a background process. The outcome has not only freed up procurement and finance teams but also improved reporting accuracy and compliance, while eliminating backlog-driven risks.
