Head of SAP AMS - UK - Job Opening

The Head of SAP AMS is a senior leadership role responsible for strategically leading AG’s entire SAP Application Managed Services (AMS) practice for onshore operations. This role ensures efficient delivery, optimized resource utilisation, operational governance and strong commercial control across all AMS engagements. You will act as the strategic custodian of service excellence, ensuring AG delivers high-quality, scalable, and predictable AMS services in line with contractual KPIs, SLAs, and client expectations. This role requires a blend of SAP service delivery leadership, AMS operational expertise, commercial acumen, customer success management, people management, and continuous improvement mindset.

Key responsibilities

1.  AMS Strategy, Leadership & Governance 
 Build and lead the end-to-end SAP AMS function for onshore operations. 
 Define AMS operating models, resource structures, processes, and governance 
frameworks. 
 Establish and oversee Module Lead + Primary Resource Model to enhance 
accountability and reduce SDM workload (ref. benefits slide you shared). 
 Drive continuous improvement across delivery, tools, reporting, automation, 
and standardization. 
 Implement AG’s AMS strategic roadmap aligned to growth, capability 
development, and RISE/GROW transformations. 
2. Service Delivery Excellence 
 Ensure 100% adherence to SLAs/KPIs across all AMS contracts (incidents, 
service requests, problems, changes, releases). 
 Maintain a forward-looking view of risks, service gaps, and capacity to ensure 
proactive support planning. 
 Oversee incident triaging, root cause analysis (RCA), patch management, 
vulnerability management, and technical optimisation. 
 Ensure structured governance: 
o Daily stand-ups 
o Weekly operational reviews 
o Monthly service reviews (MSRs) 
o Quarterly executive reviews

3. Commercial & Contract Management 
 Own the P&L for AMS engagements, including revenue forecasting, resource
based cost control, and profitability management.
 Drive commercials on renewals, expansions, and CR-based income with 
clients. 
 Ensure compliance with contracted service definitions, chargeability, billing, 
and margin targets. 
 Lead AMS pricing models, SoW creation, and commercial negotiations in 
collaboration with Sales & Directors. 
4. Resource Planning & Capability 
 Oversee recruitment, onboarding, and capability development of AMS 
consultants. 
 Implement skill-matrix-driven allocation to optimise utilisation across 
onshore/offshore teams. 
 Develop module-wise SMEs, leads, primary/secondary backup resources. 
 Drive certifications, upskilling plans (SAP S/4HANA, Cloud ALM, BTP, SAP 
Activate). 
 Promote a culture of ownership, accountability, collaboration, and learning. 
5. Client Relationship & Stakeholder Management 
 Serve as senior escalation point and trusted advisor for all AMS clients. 
 Build strong relationships with client IT, business stakeholders, and vendor 
partners. 
 Communicate risks, issues, improvements, and transformation opportunities. 
 Ensure transparency through structured dashboards and measurable service 
performance reports. 
6. Tools, Automation & Process Innovation 
 Strengthen AG’s AMS toolset (ITSM, Knowledge Base, Monitoring, 
Dashboards). 
 Drive automation using UiPath, SAP Cloud ALM, and monitoring tools. 
 Embed ITIL, SAP Activate, Agile, and DevOps best practices into daily 
operations. 
 Standardize templates, documentation, SOPs, and runbooks for AMS delivery. 
7. Governance of Change, Releases & Projects 
 Oversee end-to-end change request lifecycle, cost estimation, approvals, and 
delivery. 
 Govern release management cycles including regression testing, deployment 
readiness, transport approvals, and post-release validation. 
 Ensure integration with project teams for hybrid AMS + project support 
scenarios.

Skills and Qualifications:
 12–18+ years overall SAP experience with minimum 8+ years in AMS 
leadership roles. 
 Deep understanding of SAP modules (FI, MM, SD, PM, PS, Basis, ABAP, BW, 
Security) and integrated landscapes (aligned with SDM JD) 
 Strong background in managing large-scale multi-module AMS engagements. 
 Proven track record of leading distributed (onshore/offshore) teams of 30–150 
resources. 
 Strong commercial experience – revenue management, margin control, 
pricing. 
 Experience interacting with C-level stakeholders and managing escalations. 
 Deep understanding of ITIL processes (Incident, Problem, Change, Release). 
 Experience in SAP S/4HANA, RISE, GROW, Cloud ALM, and SAP Activate. 
 Excellent communication, stakeholder management, leadership, and 
presentation skills. 

Preferences:
 ITIL, PMP, Prince2 certification (as preferred in SDM JD) 
 Experience in asset-intensive industries (Oil & Gas, Utilities, Chemicals, ENR). 
 Experience in automation and monitoring (SAP Solution Manager, Cloud ALM, 
UiPath). 
 Prior experience in a consulting or SAP Gold Partner environment.
